FAQs

You should find all of the questions to your answers here. If not, please ask!

How long will you keep our names against our date once we enquire?

Once you have enquired, and if your date is available, your names will be pencilled in for that date. Should I not hear from you within a week of my enquiry response I will open the date back up.

After discussing further with you I will keep the date open for a week whilst you decide. Should I not hear from you in this time I will open the date again.

How do we book you?

A non-refundable £300 retainer via bank transfer and a signed contract is required to secure your date. Just let me know you want to go ahead and I can get these documents to you.

What happens if our date changes?

If you need to change your date for whatever reason I am more than happy to move your retainer to the new date, should I be available. If I am not available then I will no longer be able to photograph your Wedding.

When do we pay our final balance?

A month before your wedding day I will send you a final balance invoice as well as a pre-wedding questionnaire to fill in. Please make sure both the payment and questionnaire are complete no later than 2 weeks before the wedding day.

Please note no images will be delivered until the balance is paid.

Will we meet you before the day?

If you want to! A final meeting is included in all packages, and this can be done over video call/call/coffee. Also happy to meet locally for a coffee at your enquiry stage, should my schedule allow.

What if you haven’t been to our venue before?

If your venue is local to me we can visit together. If your venue is further afield then I will do some online research, as well as arrive early on the day to have a look around.

What if you’re ill on the day?

In the very unfortunate event that I am ill I will endeavour to find a photographer to replace me. We are a close knit community us photographers here in the north east and I am sure someone would be able to step in. If this is something to be arranged in advance of the wedding day I would ensure you could chat with them and approve the decision.

Can I send you photos I like the look of/want to create?

If there are some photos you like the look of I am happy to see them. I don’t like to recreate other artist’s work, but if the ideas are something I can take inspiration from then I’m happy to do so.

When do you start on a wedding day?

For full day bookings I suggest starting 3 hours before your ceremony time. For me this is plenty of time to get all the photos I like to get for bridal preparations. We can discuss this should you think it be different.

How long do you stay on the wedding day?

I don’t set a finish time as every wedding is different. On average I stay about an hour after your first dance. However if the dance floor was electric or there are more plans for the evening I’ll stay longer.

Will my online gallery expire?

Yes. The online gallery will be online for one year. Please make sure that you download your gallery in full and keep it somewhere safe in your possession.

How many images do we get?

I don’t set a number on this as every wedding is different. But on average I deliver around 600 final images for a full day gallery without a second shooter.

When can we expect our preview gallery?

I will get your preview gallery to you within one week of your wedding day. If I can do it faster, I will. If I can’t make this timeline I will let you know.

How long do we have to wait for our full gallery?

My contract states 8-10 weeks. This covers me for the busiest times of year. If I can do it faster, I will. And I will always keep you updated if for any reason I can’t achieve those timelines.

Why should we consider a second shooter?

For many reasons! If your wedding party is particularly large (130+ day guests) I would suggest a second shooter. And if you are hoping to have the groom’s wedding morning covered I would suggest a second shooter. For the simple reason that I can’t be in two places at once.

If the groom is getting ready at the same place as the bride then I can pop down for 15 mins to get some shots of buttonholes going on, greeting guests etc but I can’t cover 2 whole wedding mornings.

A second shooter is also excellent for getting candid photos whilst we are away getting group shots and portraits, and during speeches. As well as extra angles of your ceremony and other parts of your day.

I have a pool of wonderful photographers that I use for second shooting. All of which have worked with me on multiple occasions and our styles all marry up.

What equipment do you have?

I have 2 cameras on me on a wedding day, a Sony A7iii and a Sony A7iv. Both have 2 memory card slots so there are 2 copies of your images on the day. I mainly use an 85mm 1.4 lens and a 35mm 1.4 lens, and I have a 20mm 1.4 lens to use occasionally. I prefer to use fixed focal lengths as I find the quality of the images are better. I also use a Sony flashgun for the evening reception and darker environments.

How do you back up your photos?

Once I am home from your wedding I will upload all the images on to my external hard drive, and I keep a set of memory cards with your images on to one side. Once the photos are edited those cards get used again for another wedding.

I’ll keep a copy of your raw files for 1 year and your edited delivered files for 3 years.

Are you insured?

I am! I am with Hiscox for both public liability and professional indemnity insurance. Just ask me for the certificates should you need them.

What’s your editing process and style?

After backing up your photos I will then cull them down to the best of the best images. Then I will use an AI system to do a base edit of the final selection. This base edit has been learnt from previous wedding galleries I have edited myself. I then will run through all of the images individually and make tweaks and adjustments I see necessary. I’ll never let AI do the whole job.

This will be things like cropping, adjusting brightness and tones. I like to adjust the temperature of the image and reduce the saturation of some colours. The end result is timeless & authentic but with a warm and romantic style. I do use AI as mentioned above and also to remove certain distractions in images such as fire exit signs and any objects that may distract from the image.

I will never use AI for the whole editing process as I just don’t think it can make the same choices I can in terms of choosing photos based on emotion and my personal style.

What are the usage terms for the photos?

The photos are yours, with full personal usage rights. Should you wish to use the images commercially and for financial gain then I ask that I am made aware of this and we can discuss further.

The contract states that I can use the images for marketing material (socials media, website, trade, advertising purposes). If this is something you are uncomfortable with we can change the contract to reflect this.

When do we go for our couple photos in the day?

In the Spring/Summer months where the days are longer and we have more daylight I like to split your couple photos in to two parts of the day. I think this is less overwhelming for yourselves and makes better use of our time throughout the day. I like to spend 20 minutes with you in your drinks reception and then another 15/20 minutes with you after your wedding breakfast.

We’re really nervous about getting our photo taken, will we be ok? (mini session, split times, being yourselves)

You’ll be ok! I have built my business on the premise of making my couples feel comfortable, respected and relaxed. All I want from my couples is to capture their bond and personality authentically. Just by being yourselves, however that looks, means you’re doing it right!

I will gently direct you, but if anything feels uncomfortable we’ll swiftly move on. I love for you to have a chat and get the giggles, have a smooch and a little walk around. It shouldn’t be anything you don’t usually do, so hopefully this makes it feel less contrived.

Where possible I will split your couple photos up in to two pockets of time throughout the day. Usually this would be a 20 minute pocket in your drinks reception and a 15/20 minute pocket after your wedding breakfast. In the winter months where the daylight ends at 3.30pm this might not be possible and we might have to plan photos around available light. We’d discuss this before your day.

There’s always the option of a mini session too. They’re a great way to experience being in front of the camera before your day and also to get to know me a bit better, which in turn will make your photos look and feel more relaxed. As well as find out what feels good/not so good for you both.

If you need some reassurance on all of this I would recommend reading my Google review here.

Do we need to provide you with a meal?

If I am there for the full day then yes please. And if you have booked a second shooter then yes for them too. It doesn’t need to be your full wedding breakfast. It can be one course or a bar tab, whatever works. The venue will usually chat with you about this too.

Are you happy to work with a videographer?

Of course! Providing they are respectful and understand that we have the same end goal to achieve then there should be no issues. I can recommend some should you need some names.

Do you have a drone?

I don’t have a drone.

Do you offer any video services?

I don’t offer any video services.

Do you use any film photography?

I don’t use any film on Wedding days.

Do you follow any trends?

On the whole, no. I am quite against trends as I want my work to stand the test of time. I think trends can date quickly and I worry that we’d look back in years to come and not enjoy those photos anymore. However now and then a trend will come along which I think is fun and will participate in (like champagne towers and direct flash for example). But these trends are more about a part of the wedding day, and not my style of work.

Why should we book you?

Now that’s a big question! There is an abundance of amazing photographers here in the north east. We’re a talented bunch!

But for me it’s more than just delivering images. It’s the whole experience. I care about and I am genuinely interested in all of my couples. I want your experience with me to be easy, relaxed and enjoyable at every step of the way.

I know that your day is not a photoshoot and not an opportunity for me to get my new best instagram post. It’s about documenting the day that unfolds in front of me. Capturing your loved ones and special moments that occur. Not manipulating the schedule in a way which works best for me. Not forcing moments or situations. My aim is to deliver beautiful and emotive photographs whilst keeping you in your plans and with your loved ones.

I have been photographing weddings since 2013 when I was studying photography at foundation degree level. I’ve got lots of experience. I am able to react and adapt to the changing parts of a wedding day, and that only comes from experience in the field.

Booking with me will give you a lovely experience as well as the knowledge that your day is in safe hands.
