A minimalist city centre Wedding - The Secret Tower, Newcastle Upon Tyne

A modern and sophisticated venue boasting amazing views in the heart of Newcastle city centre. My thoughts as a north east wedding photographer.

Last September I had the pleasure of visiting one of Newcastle’s most popular wedding venues, The Secret Tower. Rachel & Ian asked me to photograph their Wedding there and I could not have been more excited, I had seen so many gorgeous Wedding photos there on my socials! And it surely was a hit with me too.

As a North East wedding photographer these are the things I thought made it a fantastic venue choice:

  • Central location which makes getting to the venue easy, and you are surrounded by choice for accommodation and vendors.

  • The location of the venue gives amazing views of the Tyne Bridge. Perfect for lovers of the toon!

  • The minimal white-wash style of the ceremony room makes for a wonderful blank canvas for any theme. Or you can lean in to the simple visuals.

  • The white-wash room also means the room is always bright, a photographers dream!

  • The team at The Secret Tower actually paint the white floor in between every single Wedding, now that is dedication and goes to show the level of detail and care from this venue. No messy footprints on your Wedding day!

  • There are so many authentic features in this venue still. There is a quirky dark bar and stunning enormous keep doors which make for unique photos.

  • The food is beautiful!

Rachel and Ian wanted simple and timeless photographs that reflected their day authentically. It makes a lot of sense to me as to why they chose this venue as it is beautifully simple and timeless. Rachel made a stunning Bride and I adored her choices in her outfit, again very chic and timeless whilst being her most elevated self.

The colour scheme was was sage green, creams and pinks which complemented the surroundings so well. I was so impressed with the team at the venue, they were so quick to turn around the white room in between the ceremony and wedding breakfast and they even made sure we had some time in the empty room for portraits. From an experienced wedding photographer I can tell you that this does not usually happen, and I think it comes from the owner of the venue being a photographer previously himself. I want to say a big THANK YOU to the venue for doing this as these photos are and will be some of the best of the day.

We did have a little rain to contend with but the addition of the sheltered spaces in the courtyard were perfect to keep guests dry and cosy. One of my favourite parts of this venue was the incredible view. Not many venues can have such a close view of the Tyne Bridge and Quayside but the secret Tower certainly does! It made a great backdrop for photos.

It never felt like we were in the same room for the ceremony, wedding breakfast and party. The team at The Secret Tower managed to turn things around so quickly and made the atmosphere at each stage feel different. A round of applause from me!
