An autumnal DIY wedding in Hexham Abbey

I look back in awe at Yolli & Liam’s wedding day last Autumn. It was a day that perfectly reflected them as a couple and what they value, mixed with some truly amazing planning.

When I first spoke with Yolli & Liam I was taken aback with how in tune with themselves they were, and how much thought and effort they put in to their wedding plans. They explained they were hoping for a day that felt comfortable to them, that highlighted the wonderful people in their lives, and that didn’t follow trends.

The day was to take place in Hexham Abbey, with a ceremony ran by one of their closest friends. They married legally earlier in the week, this ceremony was a celebration of them as a couple and all of the people in their lives.

It was November, and the park adjascent to the Abbey was rich in tones of orange and yellow. This was brought through in to their decorations, most of which were creations by their very talented friends. Some of the most exquisite centre pieces and signage, all made even more special by the fact that their friends and family crafted it. I don’t think you can get more unique than that!

Not only was it a gorgeous time of year to marry, Yolli & Liam also picked a day where both the Hexham firework display and the GAIA installation in the Abbey were taking place. Now that is some perfect planning! Especially considering their drinks reception was due to take place in an arm the Abbey itself. The photos were incredible!

So the day looked like this: Yolli got ready at The Beaumont Hotel whilst Liam greeted guests to the Abbey, the ceremony took place with intimate vows in the Abbey Hall, followed by a drinks reception in the Abbey itself being overlooked by the GAIA installation and with Greggs sausage rolls on hand, followed by speeches in the Abbey Hall with dinner, open mic speeches, fireworks to be enjoyed from the abbey grounds and then an evening of dancing! An epic day with so much variety and fun involved!

And of course we made the most of every photo opportunity available, from photos in the autumnal park grounds, the GAIA installation, the fireworks diplay and the wonderful grounds we had use of.

This was a really refreshing day for me and a reminder that a wedding is exactly what you want it to be. Make sure you celebrate what is important to you, and you feel comfortable with your plans. It’s your day to celebrate, so it should be enjoyable!
