A Christmas Wedding at The Willows at The Woodman’s Arms | North East Wedding Photographer

When I think of Christmas I think of cosy interiors, dark evenings, twinkly lights, flushed cheeks, yummy food and lots of socialising with loved ones. Gemma and Paul wanted to bring this energy to their wedding day, and with it being the 21st December it absolutely felt like a Christmas wonderland,.Christmas tree included!

The vibes were high with the excitement and cheer that Christmas brings. Guests gathered in the entrance to The Willows at The Woodman’s Arms, whilst Gemma got herself ready upstairs. The Willows is knows for it’s cosy and warm interiors throughout the year, but at this time of year it is taken to another level.

Gemma and Paul chose to have a celbrant for their ceremony and it was really lovely to hear all about their story, and for their little boy and guests to be so involved. And their dog! See photos for more…

The rings were kept safe in a wooden box etched with a steam train, a detail that means a lot to this family. The box was passed amongst the wedding guests, so that they could each warm the rings with their love and support before they were placed on Gemma and Paul’s fingers. What a gorgeous sentiment that is! It really was a day for everyone, not just Gemma and Paul.

Mulled wine, gingerbread men and mince pies were served during drinks reception. I LOVED this details, another nod to the festivities! We snapped some group shots in the beautiful ceremony room in front of the willow tree, and I got some photos of Gemma and Paul in front of the Christmas tree. Gorgeous scenes!

With it being a late December wedding the daylight we did have was gone by 3.45pm, and it was a very foggy day to begin with. We chose not to head outside for photos, but it didn’t matter as we had so much space to play with inside. I always think it’s so important to lean into the details of your day, for example the low light conditions of a late winter day, or the pouring rain on your day. It’s all a part of your story and your day, so embrace it!

We then headed in for food and speeches. Gemma and Paul did a joint speech which I thought was lovely! And then an evening of dancing commenced!

What a joy! If you are planning a wedding at The Willows at The Woodman’s Arms and are looking for a North East Wedding Photographer I’d love to hear from you! You can see my work here and contact me here.
