A classy Dalton Old Pump House Wedding | North East Wedding Photographer

Photographing a Wedding at Dalton Old Pump House

This is a venue like no other. With sophisticated and elegant interiors and a rich history it’s a beautiful venue for a classy wedding day. Lady Dalton boasts impressive interiors with ceremonies taking place in the historic engine room and reception in the jaw dropping ball room, you’ll lose count of the number of chandeliers in both rooms. I’m yet to meet someone who isn’t in awe when they step inside.

In true British fashion it is usually raining when I’m there, but it doesn’t matter at Lady Dalton as the amount of gorgeous photo opportunities at hand around the venue is huge. There is so much beautiful window light and so many impressive backdrops to play with, it makes no difference to me when we can’t get outside. It makes it a solid choice for weddings all year round.

Ashleigh and John got married in October, and we were scheduled a tropical storm! And I can confirm we had horizontal rain all day long. But like I said, it didn’t matter. Ashleigh arrived for Bridal preparations in the morning and made use of the gorgeous Bridal suite on site. There’s so much space for your bridal party here and the same chic and elegant interiors can be found here. Ashleigh got ready with her bridesmaids including her sister and mum.

I popped up to see John and his groomsmen before Ashleigh got in to her dress. The top floor of the engine room is kept for the Groom to use on his arrival at the venue. This space is one of my favourites, and I love using the big windows at the end of the room for portraits. The light is unmatched!

Ashleigh got in her dress with special help from her sister, and she looked so stunning. Her simple dress with low cut back and that amazing updo were a match made in heaven. And not to mention the flowers. Everyone was obsessed, including me! Never have I seen such a perfect bouquet with complimenting colours, textures and volume. Perfect for the winter wedding vibes!

The ceremony was emotional, I could feel Ashleigh and John bubbling with excitement at the front whilst guests watched them marry. It’s the best feeling to know you’re apart of this long awaited day for them!

After a beautiful ceremony guests enjoyed drinks in the bar before we headed back to the engine room for group photos. The staff at Dalton Old Pump House are so great at clearing up spaces at speed, this meant we could avoid the rain for group shots and get them done inside. We then headed off for 20-30 minutes on a little venue tour for some photos of the two of them, starting at that beautiful window light on the top floor of the engine room. We then made sure to get photos in the ceremony space and the ball room. Then it was time to sit for speeches and food!

There’s always a lull after dinner, and I think this is a great time to utilise for a few more portraits and any group photos you’ve missed. Ashleigh and John were up for another walk around the ball room, but this time I wanted to use some flash to create more of an evening vibe to the photos. With the chandelier backdrop, these turned out so gorgeous. I am obsessed!

Cake cutting and first dance soon came along and after some epic dance floor photos it was time for me to go home. Ashleigh and John were so accommodating and up for everything I threw at them, and they loved the photos ☺️
